Three Day’s Grace

Three Day’s Grace

A lovely little three day weekend snuck up on me, thanks in part to the lack of reverence the majority of Americans hold towards their fallen soldiers. My company newsletter went out some time last week so I caught notice of the free day there. It will be good to have another day all to myself and, unlike the situation I mentioned in a previous entry where I waste the time, I have plans to do some good yardwork.

I haven’t been entirely idle these past few days. Last night we went to the California Pizza Kitchen, and I unfortunately forgot my credit card there. I made note of this only when I went to make a purchase online, as Best Buy had a smoking deal on an LCD monitor. This, of course, was relevant to my interests because Remy and I were doing computer work in the garage and the lack of a spare monitor on hand kept bugging me. I was going to stop by the office and grab one of our remaining CRT monitors, but I didn’t want to risk setting off the alarm as I am not 100% on that door code. I digress from my point, however, which is that I made the purchase online using my card number from memory and went back to CPK today to fetch the card. I stopped by BestBuy to pick up my online order, and grabbed a few more bags of pea gravel from Home Depot as well. All of this within a mile of one another, it really is a beautiful thing, these market places and business centers. Brent attended the little outing, and we grabbed a bite to eat while we were out, which was nice because I don’t see a whole lot of the guy; he’s either tied up with TF2, friends, or that girlfriend of his.

Foul weather has impeded much of my yardwork plans, with SoCal getting that rare downpour of rain and cold. We even had a record setting tornado touch down, which is very bizarre for this part of the world, you must understand. I will take earthquakes and fires any day over tornadoes. Anything that can whip me and my house up into the air is fucking serious business. We don’t exactly have basements in these parts, either. Still, I can’t tell you enough how much I prefer this weather over the alternative.

Paranoid delusions aside, I think we’re on track for making the place look decent for the graduation party in… (checking the side-bar) 26 days. We’re going with a Hawaiian theme this year, if I haven’t mentioned that already. There is a delicate balance when decorating that we must be sure not to disturb; one too many Tiki heads and it feels more like someone threw up a Disney attraction all over your party. That shit isn’t even realistic, but the hula girls will be. Come for the BBQ, stay for Limbo.

On a final note, I’ve been talking with my father more and more. It’s funny and sad how little he knows of the outside world. He’ll catch newspaper articles or watch dumbed down movies on the house television (they just watched I am Legend!), and he’s always amazed when I tell him about the tech advances in the last six months or so. I was explaining to him what Steam was, and he often wonders what the latest big video game to drop is. I comfort him with the fact that the more things change, the more they seem to stay the same. The last big nintendo game was still Smash Brothers, and people are creaming over the latest GTA. Not much difference from when he went in, right? You know, I feel bad when I am cleaning up my computer and go through the MyDocs folder.  I used to write him somewhat occasionally in Highschool, and now I am content with the occasional phonecall.

I know there’s an entry from 2003 in there somewhere, wherein I am afraid of becoming what I am now. So apathetic and casual to the fact that he’s not here. I can wax philosophical, or I can do something about it.
